I wrote this story for my short fiction class in my senior year of college, almost exactly ten years ago.  Somewhat less than ten years ago, Trudy and I performed it together (I read the bard's parts, she read the dragon's parts) as storytellers at a Yule gathering in Memphis.  Have your tissue box handy.
